The Legend
He came from the sea and constructed eternal walls
His name was Takaynamo. He landed a fleet of ships on Peru’s northern shores accompanied by his entourage and army. No one knows where he came from, but he founded the Chimu empire and could have been the driving force behind Chan Chan, largest and best preserved mud city in the world. This incredible city by the sea is a thirty minute drive from Trujillo, capital of La Libertad, and visitors are always amazed at how its towering walls have withstood time and Mother Nature. Not far from there are other famous archeological sites, the likes of the Pyramid of the Moon and El Brujo, and to the North sits the city of Chiclayo and its surroundings, which include world class museums such as the Royal Tombs of Sipan Museum.
